The Deficit is the amount by which the federal government’s total budget outlays exceeds its total receipts for a fiscal year.
Last year, FY 2023, the deficit was $1.69 trillion.
This year, FY 2024, the deficit is budgeted at $1.86 trillion.
By FY2029 the deficit is budgeted at $1.48 trillion.

The Gross Federal Debt is the gross amount of debt outstanding issued by the US Treasury.
Last year, FY 2023, the gross federal debt ended at $32.99 trillion.
This year, FY 2024, the gross federal debt is budgeted at $35.11 trillion.
By FY2029 the federal debt is budgeted at $44.16 trillion.

Total federal spending includes outlays spent directly by the federal government and also intergovernmental transfers spent at the state and local levels.
Last year, FY 2023, total federal spending was $6.13 trillion.
This year, FY 2024, total federal spending is budgeted at $6.94 trillion.
By FY2029 total federal spending is budgeted at $8.31 trillion.
Defense Spending
Defense Spending in the United States is budgeted in FY 2024 at $1,325.0 billion, including Pentagon spending $907.7 billion, veterans spending at $347.4 billion and foreign aid spending at $69.8 billion.
